Felice Complenano Julie.
Had some time exploring Sulmona and shopping buying me presents on Julie's birthday. Had a coffee by the piazza before leaving and a small Fiat Panda parked behind us blocking our way. Several shop keepers came out asking around for the driver of the 'Panda Rosa'. Eventually an old gentleman sitting near us moved his car and we were away. Quickly got lost in the historic centre and we were saved by another kind Italian man who through lots of pointing got us on the right track. Both of these incidents highlight how helpful and kind the people here have been to us.
Another funny incident was me being mistaken for a policeman in my new Italy colored polo top This happened just after we had escaped from the red Panda. A singnoria was illegally parked and when I approached and she started apologizing and explaining in rapid Italian why she was parked where the motorcycles should be. I said I spoke only English and she looked releaved and mentioned Polizia. Justin said I should have given her a ticket anyway.
From Sulmona it was an easy trip to Peschici on a warm blue day. Stopped for nice mixed salad lunch at one of the frequent Servicios or refueling/food places just off the autostrada. The gps took us on some steep and narrow paths through olive groves and goats into the drier heal of italy.
In Peschici by 3pm. This town has white washed buildings perched on the peninsula, very Greek. A popular swimming spot on the Adriatic.
We went for a swim in the lovely warm sea about 4 pm. Then back for showers and out for cena at a fantastic rustic sea side restaurant the Trabucco Di Mina. Right by the sea beside their traditional fishing frame or trabucco.
Julie wore her present. You can see why she had been called molto carina and bello (beautiful) by several Italians we have met!
We chose the fresh fish we wanted to eat from the cabinet by the counter and they cooked them in a variety of ways, grilled sea bass, poached turbut and baked bream. Amazing tastes and beautiful setting.
Towards the end of the meal I asked our waiter to compliment the chef. For the final course the young chef Dominico delivered it himself and personally served it to us while taking about the history of the family ristorante and fishing. The place was busy so his time with us was special.
A very memorable birthday.
