Up early to catch the train from Poggibonsi to Florence. Left at 7.30am and arrived at 9. A quick coffee and a walk to our bikes and we were riding with our guide Christina by 10 am.
Three hours was happily spent cruising the historic centre with stops for commentary, pastries and gellato.
A lovely lunch in a small narrow cafe or Aperto, a place for the locals. Typically people rushing in standing for a quick expresso (means fast) or lunch.
Bought a ticket for 4 of the main attractions of the 13th century Duomo, an enormously impressive marble church - the 4th biggest in the world. Three colors of marble were used - white, pink and green, and the effect is bello.
Walked the 435 steps up narrow staircases to the top of the cupola or dome. Stunning views over Florence and a feeling of vertigo. Then we visited the Baptistery with its ornate colorful mosaics.
Now on the 5.10pm treno back to Poggibonsi. A big day out. We'll be back to visit the Ufizzi and Michaelangelo's David later in the week.
