We had a fabulous ride from Alberbello to Monopoli, 30km with 9 km of excellent down hill overlooking the coastal plain. We missed the rain again.
A quick get away from Monopoli for our 5 hour drive across the heal of Italy to the Mediterranean Sea and Pisciotta. This drive was mainly on regional roads but still some impressive 4 lane highway, viaducts and tunnels. The gps continues to keep us on our toes by putting us on some narrow windy back roads. One was blocked by a big slip with an exciting single lane detour around it.
Got to Pisciotta about 6 pm, bought some supplies and were shown to our Villa about 2 km out of town. Our place is about 90 steep steps down off the road and we have christened various parts of the ascent camp 1, camp 2, the Hillary Step and the summit ridge.
Lazy day today catching up on sleep and washing. Have explored some of the town which has houses perched on cliffs and superb coastal views. Had a lovely swim in the marina below us followed by a late lunch.
The weather is very humid which the locals say is most unusual. Sitting outside now on our lovely patio reading, relaxing and planning our day trip tomorrow by treno to the Greek temples of Paestum.
