Churches a plenty

Started the day with a visit to the Duomo of San Gimignano made all the more informative with our free audio guides. New and old testament frescos everywhere beautifully painted by Sienese masters of the 14th century.

Julie and I then sped up the tallest tower, the Torre Grossa, for views over San G and Tuscany.

Home for lunch with fresh foccacia. We then drove to the nearby Etruscan village of Volterra. Much less touristy, more peaceful and equally as stunning as San G. No vampires were seen. Visited 3 more churches, all special and moving in their own way.

One of the highlights was the ruins of a Roman amphitheatre. Great vistas over the Tuscan landscape followed by a nice drive through the wooded countryside home.
