Up at 5 am to catch the 6.48 am train to Florence for our visit to the Uffizi art museum. Before our tour we had a coffee standing at the counter just like the locals, only $1.30 each. Got some pictures of the David replica near the Uffizi first since we wouldn't have time to see him in person. Also some pictures of the Ponte Vecchio on the Arno River.
Our booking was for 8.45am and there were lots of people there already. Picked up our audio guides and purchased a written guide too.
There are over 90 rooms with paintings from Masters of the Medieval to modern age. Heaps of marble sculptures too from Roman times, early BC.
Five hours passed quickly as we travelled from room to room and marvelled at the impressive works. There were lots of interpretations of biblical stories. I wore my Dick Frizzell tee shirt to show Michaelangelo.
Julie's favorite works were The Adoration of Magi by Durer and the Death of the Innocents. I liked the works of Titian and Raphael especially his Pope Leo X.
The Uffizi itself has some lovely rooms with frescos and decorative ceilings and tiled floors. It was a great activity for a very hot day.
Tomorrow we move on to Sulmona on our way to Puglia and the Adriatic coast.
